During his time at Sano, he earned both Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science. His theses formed the basis for several scientific publications he authored, which were presented at international conferences. He is a core developer of a cloud solution for the Transcriptomics Atlas as part of the NearData project. An advocate of an active lifestyle\u2014both physical (bouldering, team sports) and mental (chess).<\/p>\n<p>In his free time, he enjoys listening to audiobooks and attending orchestral Recently, this approach has been introduced to computational medicine, within the concept of Digital Twin in Healthcare (DTH). Such research requires verification and validation of its models, as well as the corresponding sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification (VVUQ). From the computing perspective, VVUQ is a computationally intensive process, as it requires numerous runs with variations of input parameters. Researchers often use high-performance computing (HPC) solutions to run VVUQ studies where the number of parameter combinations can easily reach tens of thousands. However, there is a viable alternative to HPC for a substantial subset of computational models - serverless computing. In this paper we hypothesize that using the serverless computing model can be a practical and efficient approach to selected cases of running VVUQ calculations. We show this on the example of the EasyVVUQ library, which we extend by providing support for many serverless services. The resulting library - CloudVVUQ - is evaluated using two real-world applications from the computational medicine domain adapted for serverless execution. This prospective study aimed to investigate the potential role of miR-21-5p in mediating Th17 pathway alterations contributing to AAA formation.<br>Samples were obtained from patients with infrarenal AAA undergoing elective open surgery and from a control group of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) patients without aneurysms, both at the time of surgical admission. Aneurysmal tissue fragments were collected intraoperatively. Total RNA was isolated, and miR-21-5p expression together with Th17-related markers were quantified using RT-qPCR and Luminex assays. Additionally, an in vitro model using human endothelial cells transfected with a synthetic miR-21-5p mimic was employed to study mechanistic effects.<br>A total of 60 participants were included\u201430 AAA cases and 30 matched controls. Circulating miR-21-5p levels were markedly elevated in AAA patients. Functional analysis revealed that miR-21-5p downregulates genes essential for endothelial development, vascular permeability regulation, and endothelial response to growth factors. Among the most efficient and accurate tools for this purpose is the STAR aligner , a computationally demanding yet widely adopted solution in modern transcriptomics.<br>Serverless computing models such as Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) and Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) have emerged as flexible frameworks for executing diverse workloads, including batch and event-driven tasks . These architectures offer key advantages over conventional infrastructure\u2014mainly high scalability, minimal maintenance, and cost efficiency through pay-per-use billing. Nonetheless, each service type comes with its own constraints, which may influence their suitability for running STAR-based RNA sequence processing.<br>Previous studies have demonstrated the feasibility of executing lightweight aligners, such as HiSat2, within serverless environments . By partitioning input FASTQ files into smaller chunks, researchers effectively parallelized computations, achieving notable performance improvements. Despite this progress, STAR remains superior in both alignment accuracy and potential processing speed .<br>Deploying STAR efficiently in a serverless setup poses several challenges, primarily due to its reliance on a large prebuilt genome index that must reside in memory during execution.
