The text, titled \u201cDigital twins in important practical applications \u2013 medicine and life sciences\u201d (Polish: \u201e<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pti.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Domena-Konferencja-2-2026.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/pti.org.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Domena-Konferencja-2-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cyfrowe bli\u017aniaki w wa\u017cnych praktycznych zastosowaniach (medycyna, nauki o \u017cyciu)<\/a><\/strong>\u201d), was written by <a href=\"https:\/\/sano.science\/people\/maciej-malawski\/\" type=\"people\" id=\"531\">Maciej Malawski<\/a>, Director of Sano, and <a href=\"https:\/\/sano.science\/people\/magdalena-otta\/\" type=\"people\" id=\"12028\">Magdalena Otta<\/a>, a Postdoctoral Researcher specialising in modelling biomedical processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer eplus-wrapper\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The authors explain what patient digital twins are and show how the combination of mathematical models, large\u2011scale computing (high\u2011performance computing, HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) can support diagnostics, therapy planning and the development of new treatment methods. The article emphasises the importance of model personalisation, rigorous validation and uncertainty quantification (VVUQ \u2013 verification, validation and uncertainty quantification), as well as the use of modern computational infrastructure in medicine and life sciences. It also highlights Sano\u2019s role in the European digital twin ecosystem, in the context of initiatives such as the Virtual Physiological Human (<a href=\"https:\/\/vph-society.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">VPH Society<\/a>), the Swedish Digital Twin Consortium, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virtualhumantwins.eu\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.virtualhumantwins.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">European Commission projects developing platform for digital twin research<\/a>, and concrete activities in Poland, for example the \u201cDigital Patient\u201d (Polish: Cyfrowy Pacjent &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/innowacyjna.malopolska.pl\/pl\/wiedza\/platformy-specjalizacyjne\/platforma-zdrowe-spoleczenstwo\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/innowacyjna.malopolska.pl\/pl\/wiedza\/platformy-specjalizacyjne\/platforma-zdrowe-spoleczenstwo\">Zdrowe Spo\u0142ecze\u0144stwo<\/a>) roadmap prepared by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lifescience.pl\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/lifescience.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">LifeScience Cluster<\/a> with the involvement of Sano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer eplus-wrapper\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns eplus-wrapper is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex eplus-styles-uid-0d564e\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-neutral-050-background-color has-background eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The authors outline a future in which every patient has a virtual counterpart, continuously updated with data from clinical examinations and sensors, and clinical decisions are supported by simulations of different treatment scenarios.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer eplus-wrapper\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading eplus-wrapper\" id=\"h-maciej-malawski-s-talk-at-the-pti-conference\">Maciej Malawski\u2019s talk at the PTI conference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer eplus-wrapper\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The topic of digital twins will also feature in the programme of the \u201cInformatics 2026 through the eyes of PTI \u2013 achievements, perspectives, challenges\u201d conference. During the thematic session \u201cModern computing in practice\u201d, Maciej Malawski will give a talk titled \u201cDigital twins in important practical applications\u201d (Polish: \u201eCyfrowe bli\u017aniaki w wa\u017cnych praktycznych zastosowaniach\u201d). By combining a publication in PTI\u2019s nationwide journal \u201eDOMENA\u201d and a conference presentation, Sano\u2019s perspective on the development of digital twins will reach both the readers of \u201eDOMENA\u201d and the informatics community gathered at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdsi.pl\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/sdsi.pl\/\">PTI 45th Anniversary
