Maciej Malawski to speak at European Parliament public health hearing

Director of Sano will join the SANT Committee’s public hearing on “Digital health: Preparing healthcare systems for the future” as an invited speaker.

On 24 June, Maciej Malawski, Director of Sano – Centre for Computational Medicine, will take part in a public hearing organised by the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) titled “Digital health: Preparing healthcare systems for the future”. The event will bring together experts, policymakers and stakeholders to assess how well EU healthcare systems are prepared for digital health and whether they are structurally ready to integrate advanced technologies into routine care.

From innovation to implementation

The hearing will focus on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), the European Health Data Space (EHDS), biotechnology into everyday clinical practice. At stake is not only technological progress, but also the long-term resilience, effectiveness and fairness of healthcare systems across the European Union.

Skills, inequalities and trust

Another key theme of the discussion will be the continuous upskilling of healthcare professionals, so that doctors, nurses and administrators can use digital tools effectively and responsibly throughout their careers. The debate will also touch on differences in digital maturity between Member States, which may lead to inequalities in access to high-quality, digitally enabled care.
Equally important will be the topic of patient data safety and public trust, with particular attention to transparency, accountability and equitable access to digital health services, both at national level and within individual healthcare facilities.

Toward a future-ready healthcare system

The hearing will conclude with a forward-looking discussion and a Q&A session with the Members of the SANT Committee, as preparing healthcare systems for the future requires coordinated action across technology, policy and society. Digital health is no longer a distant vision—it is an ongoing transformation, and the key question is how effectively Europe can integrate these technologies to deliver better and more equitable care for all citizens.

In this context, Maciej Malawski’s participation also highlights Sano’s growing contribution to the European debate on computational medicine and data‑driven healthcare.
