Research Team Leader – Computer Vision Data Science

Computer Vision Data Science group focuses its efforts on the development of AI solutions for automatic analysis and interpretation of visual information in healthcare applications.  Applications range from medical imaging, surgery, digital pathology, patient monitoring, etc.

Currently, the Group’s main focus lies in neuroscience and neuroimaging. The team comprises young scientists in PhD Student and Postdoc roles and who are collaborating with the members of a separate Scientific Programmers team.

Sano invites experienced scientists, willing to work in anacademic startupenvironment to apply for the Group Leader position. The perfect candidate is a seasoned, independent researcher, with a history of leading a research team, keen to address new challenges and willing to work on technologies of the future in a collaborative environment.

Group Leaders are key Sano employees, fulfilling the organisation’s research strategy to ensure scientific and commercial success. Collaboration between research Groups allows the best possible technological solutions to be incubated for clinical and industrial translation.

Research Group Leaders are expected to work on-site, in our office at AGH University Center of Energy in Krakow, Poland. Sano offers flexible working hours and a possibility of hybrid work.

As Group Leader, you will:

  • Lead and perform research aligned with the Sano’s overarching Research Agenda
  • Lead an existing international, inclusive group of young scientists, at various stages of their PhD/Postdoc projects – the leader is expected to mentor, advise and supervise current group members in completing their research
  • Develop and implement appropriate workflows, tools, and methods
  • Secure additional funding for research through proposing new grants, (as an individual and within consortia), to Polish and international research funding authorities
  • Strongly collaborate with Sano’s business development specialists, build strong industrial and clinical alliances, to facilitate access to medical data for junior researchers, and to improve translational prospects of research outputs
  • Build and maintain a strong scientific network, establishing collaborations – promoting a networking/collaborative attitude among group members
  • Maintain the highest quality scientific and technical outputs from group members, observing Sano’s internal rules for IP management, and taking part in establishing the Sano quality management system for medical software products
  • Communicate results at internal meetings, scientific conferences and public dissemination channels
  • Take an role in the recruitment of group members –together with Sano’s recruitment specialist in performing open, international competitions for PhD students, postdocs.

You will have a strong track record, including:

  • PhD in relevant field with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience
  • Proven experience as a commited researcher in an independent position in computer vision (convolutional neural nets, deep learning), medical imaging, machine learning, deep learning, and visual data science. Experience in neuroimaging and/or neuroscience is a plus.
  • Experience in working with healthcare-related data is highly desired but not strictly required
  • History of supervision of research group and managing research projects independently or in collaboration , high interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn or similar
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality, recognized publications, ideally in high-impact computer vision conferences
  • Experience in grant acquisition, preferably at international level (such as EU Horizon programme)
  • A record of developing research partnerships and collaborative relationships with universities, industry, and research laboratories, hospitals or medical institutions
  • Experience in translational research highly desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, fluent written and oral communication skills in English, no Polish required
  • Good organisational skills

As a Group Leader you will benefit from:

  • An attractive basic salary from 240k PLN up to 270k PLN gross yearly / approx. up to 60k EUR gross yearly which gives you very good comfort of living in Poland
