Objects of Truth: Predicting the authenticity judgement of journalistic images based on its contents, a machine learning and an eye-tracking study.

Laurent Beaupoil, PhD student Emotion and Perception Lab, Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University

Abstract:

Photographs are commonly used to persuade internet users of the veracity of news. However, in the modern age of AI and deepfakes, people start to doubt every visual they encounter online. Do they use what they see in images to decide if it’s authentic? And if they do, can we predict if a photograph will be perceived as fake or real?
