Barbara Pucelik

Pharmacology Consultant

Dr Barbara Pucelik graduated with honors from the Department of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University, in June 2018 with a PhD in exact and natural science. Her PhD was performed at Coordination and Bioinorganic Physicochemistry Group (Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Jagiellonian University) in cooperation with the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, and the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Since 2018, she is an Assistant Professor at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University. The extremely important aspect of her scientific efforts remains to connect the obtained knowledge with clinical practice and create innovative solutions in the fight against civilization diseases (i.e., cancer and bacterial infections). Her research enters the mainstream of translational science, which is proven by >36 peer-reviewed scientific articles and reviews in prestigious international journals (e.g., ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry), with a total number of citations ca. 1300 and a Hirsch index of h=20, as well as >70 international conference presentations. Dr Pucelik contributed to many research projects (12). She is the co-author of four patent applications. In 2019, she became a laureate of a prestigious START award of the Foundation of Polish Science (FNP) aimed at the most talented Young Researchers in Poland. In 2023 she became the laureate of Scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for Outstanding Young Scientists in Poland. For years she has been a member of scientific societies active in the field of oncology and photobiology, including the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR) and the European Society for Photobiology (ESP). All her scientific efforts are concentrated on drug design and development as well as the use of innovative technologies (AI, nanotechnology, organoids) to create an effective method of combating cancer with reduced side effects and improved targeting – issues that are a priority in the field of public health. In addition to her research, she constantly acquires leadership and administrative skills during specialized training and courses related to project management and entrepreneurship (i.e., Shesnnovation Academy 2023 – Perspektywy Woman in Tech, Life Science Business Academy) and participates to events dedicated to Poland’s startup scene.
