Welcoming Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć as the New President of FNP – Honoring the Leadership of Prof. Maciej Żylicz

Sano Welcomes Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć as New President of FNP, Thanks Prof. Maciej Żylicz for His Leadership

We are excited to announce that Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć, a leading expert in virology, has been elected as the new president of the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). This leadership transition, which will take effect on September 1, 2025, comes following the retirement of Prof. Maciej Żylicz, who has served as FNP’s president since 2005.

Prof. Pyrć’s career includes founding the Virology Research Group at the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology, where his team has made significant contributions to the understanding of coronaviruses, flaviviruses, alphaviruses, and influenza viruses. His research has led to the development of new therapeutic substances, with results published in high-impact journals such as Nature Medicine and Science Translational Medicine.

Reflecting on his appointment, Prof. Pyrć expressed both joy and humility, calling it “an incredible distinction, but also a great challenge and commitment.” He emphasized the Foundation’s role in building bridges between science, society, and business, a mission that mirrors Sano’s goal of connecting computational medicine with real-world healthcare solutions.

Prof. Pyrć’s connection to FNP is deeply personal—more than 15 years ago, FNP’s support enabled him to return to Poland and start his groundbreaking work on coronaviruses. His election as president marks the continuation of FNP’s legacy of fostering scientific excellence and innovation.

We also extend our gratitude to Prof. Maciej Żylicz for nearly two decades of visionary leadership at FNP. His support has been invaluable to the growth and success of Sano, and we wish him the very best in his well-earned retirement.
