Workshops from the Future of Medicine
Children Became Surgeons Thanks to VR Technology
In March, in collaboration with the Children’s University Foundation, Sano – Centre for Computational Medicine hosted a unique educational workshop that combined science, curiosity, and innovation. The event was part of our ongoing mission to nurture a passion for learning and inspire young minds to explore the world of computational medicine and advanced technologies.
The workshop, titled “How to Perform a Virtual Surgical Procedure?”, was led by Sabina Martyniak, a biomedical engineer at Sano specializing in medical informatics and passionate about showing how digital tools are transforming modern healthcare.

During the session, ten-year-old participants discovered how computer simulations help surgeons practice and refine their skills without performing operations on real patients. Using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, they had the chance to step into a surgeon’s role and even perform a virtual laparoscopic procedure on professional medical equipment.
For over two decades, VR and AR technologies have been revolutionizing medicine — making surgeries faster, safer, and less invasive. At Sano, we believe that inspiring the next generation of scientists, doctors, and engineers starts with hands-on experiences like these.
