On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, Maciej Malawski, Director of Sano – Centre for Computational Medicine and Associate Professor at AGH University of Krakow, took part as an invited speaker in a public hearing of the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) titled “Digital health: Preparing healthcare systems for the future”. The hearing brought together experts, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss how well EU healthcare systems are prepared for digital health and how they can structurally integrate advanced technologies into routine care.
Focus on future-ready healthcare
The hearing focused on key building blocks of future-ready healthcare systems, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), the European Health Data Space (EHDS), biotechnology, breakthrough medical devices and advanced medical technologies. These discussions are directly linked to ongoing EU work on frameworks that enable secure use of health data, trustworthy AI and innovation-friendly regulations for new medical technologies.

According to the official programme, Maciej Malawski opened the first panel, “Artificial intelligence (AI), European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the potential of biotechnology”, with a 8‑minute intervention starting at 9:35. As Director of Sano – Centre for Computational Personalised Medicine, he highlighted how in silico methods, high‑performance computing and AI can support more personalised, efficient and resilient healthcare in Europe.
