Sano at “Badania – Rozwój – Innowacje”
Maciej Malawski joins the Polish Teaming Club panel
On 21–22 October, Warsaw hosts the conference “Badania – Rozwój – Innowacje. Horyzont Europa i nowa era europejskiej konkurencyjności” (Research – Development – Innovation. Horizon Europe and the New Era of European Competitiveness). It is organised by the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes at the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR). Sano’s Director, Maciej Malawski, will take part in a panel discussion on Poland’s centres of excellence.
What will European research and innovation look like in the EU’s next funding period, and how can Polish science play a bigger part in it? For two days, these questions will be discussed by representatives of universities, research institutes, public administration and business. The conference is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Development and Technology, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, and the European Commission.
On the first day, participants will be welcomed by Prof. Jerzy Małachowski, Director of NCBR, and will hear from Marcin Kulasek, Minister of Science and Higher Education. The keynote lecture will be given by Prof. Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament in 2009–2012 and Prime Minister of Poland in 1997–2001. Two debates will follow. The first is about synergies, complementary funding and the European Competitiveness Fund for 2028–2034. The second is about the opportunities and challenges facing Polish applicants.
The second day, 22 October, is organised in thematic tracks: Horizon Europe clusters, European Innovation Council (EIC) Challenges, EU Missions and opportunities for individual researchers. From 11:30 to 11:45, the panel discussion “Centra Doskonałości w Polsce – Polish Teaming Club” (Centres of Excellence in Poland – Polish Teaming Club) will take place. The panellists are:
- Prof. Jacek Jagielski, NCBJ (NOMATEN)
- Dr Agnieszka Krzyżosiak, SBŁ-PORT (P4Health)
- Dr hab. Marcin Kuźniak, prof. CAMK PAN, MIAC PAN (Astrocent PLUS)
- Dr hab. Maciej Malawski, prof. AGH (Sano)
- Prof. Gracjan Michlewski, IIMCB (RACE)
- Dr hab. Dorota Anna Pawlak (ENSEMBLE3)
- Dr hab. Krzysztof Pawłowski, prof. CFT PAN (QURAK)
The seven centres work in very different fields: materials for nuclear energy, astroparticle physics, theoretical physics, molecular biology and computational medicine. They share a common origin. All were created through Teaming for Excellence, an EU instrument that supports new research centres in countries with lower participation in the EU framework programmes. Each centre is built in partnership with leading institutions from elsewhere in Europe. The panellists will talk about what has been achieved so far and what such centres need in order to keep growing.
