From Atom to Personalised Medicine:
Paulina Tworek Joins Expert Panel at the Futurological Congress
On 13 September 2026, Dr Paulina Tworek from Sano’s Computational Intelligence team took part in the panel discussion “From Atom to Personalised Medicine – Technologies for a Sustainable Future” (Pol. “Od atomu do spersonalizowanej medycyny – technologie dla zrównoważonej przyszłości”). The panel was organised by the Horyzont Jutra Association as part of this year’s Futurological Congress (Kongres Futurologiczny).
Alongside Dr Tworek, the panel featured Dr hab. Michał Krupiński and Dr inż. Jędrzej Walkowiak, with Dr inż. Tomasz Roman Tarnawski serving as moderator. The discussion started from the observation that many branches of technology are developing rapidly at the same time: smart devices and biomedical engineering are moving us towards personalised medicine, new materials are paving the way for more efficient and energy-saving electronics, and the energy sector is showing growing interest in nuclear and fusion power. The panellists explored how closely these fields are connected. Advances in electronics make it possible to record and process vast amounts of medical data more effectively, energy remains the foundation of our civilisation, and progress in energy in turn depends on research into new materials.
A key theme of the debate was sustainability understood not only in ecological but also in social terms. The speakers emphasised that understanding how different areas of technology interact allows us to steer their development consciously, so that technological change serves to improve human well-being. Dr Tworek brought the perspective of computational intelligence and data-driven medicine to the conversation.
The Futurological Congress is an annual cultural and scientific conference organised by the Polish Science Fiction Foundation in cooperation with the Kraków Festival Office and Wydawnictwo IX. Named after Stanisław Lem’s famous story, it serves as an interdisciplinary forum that, in the spirit of the Kraków writer’s work and philosophical thought, brings together creators of culture and representatives of academia. Its discussions focus on future studies and their reflections in popular culture, building a bridge between imagination and science and strengthening the foundations for the further development of Polish science fiction.
