Integrating Kraków’s Bioinformatics Community:

UBG Symposium 2026

The UBG Symposium, which took place on April 23, 2026, brought together bioinformatics research teams from Sano Centre for Computational Medicine, Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology, and the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University. The meeting aimed to support the United Bioinformatics Groups initiative, creating a space for researchers from leading research organizations in Kraków to exchange ideas, present ongoing projects, and strengthen connections within the local bioinformatics community.

Six bioinformatics groups were represented at the Symposium, including those led by Prof. Dr Paweł Łabaj, Dr Rafał Mostowy, Dr Mateusz Sikora, Dr Guillem Ylla and Dr Krzysztof Szade, as well as the Sano Structural and Functional Genomics Group led by Dr Tomasz Kościółek. A common theme across the presented talks was the use of bioinformatics tools to better understand the relationships between biological structure, dynamics, and function.

The event provided an opportunity for networking and interdisciplinary discussion between researchers working at the intersection of biology, computer science, and data analysis, fostering new collaborations and strengthening the growing bioinformatics community in Kraków.
