Sano at the Copernicus Festival 2025
Some questions are too powerful to answer — they must be explored. That spirit of curiosity and wonder animates this year’s Copernicus Festival, where science meets mystery, and Sano is proud to be part of the journey
Sano at the Copernicus Festival 2025: Artificial Intelligence, Brain Mysteries, and the Future of Medicine
From May 20 to 25, 2025, Kraków hosts one of Poland’s most inspiring celebrations of science and culture — the Copernicus Festival. This year’s edition, centered around the theme of “Mystery,” has once again become a unique space for dialogue between science, art, and philosophy. Sano at Copernicus Festival reflects our ongoing engagement with this interdisciplinary exchange, as the Centre for Computational Medicine joins as a partner, with two of our researchers contributing to the official program.
Partnering with a Festival that Bridges Science and Culture
This year’s Copernicus Festival explores the unknown — from the origins of the universe and the language of animals to the secrets of DNA, the hidden workings of the human brain, and the potential of artificial intelligence. Over six days, scientists, artists, and thinkers come together at the Museum of Engineering and Technology in Kraków to reflect on what astonishes, unsettles, and inspires us in today’s world.

Paulina Tworek: Is Medicine Becoming a Machine’s Job?
On Sunday, May 25 at 13:30, Paulina Tworek (Postdoctoral Researcher in Personal Health Data Science) will give a talk titled “Sztuczna inteligencja na dyżurze. Czy lekarz to zawód wymierający?” She will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming modern medicine — from supporting diagnostics to guiding clinical decision-making. The session takes place at the Museum of Engineering and Technology in Kraków.
Jan K. Argasiński: Debating Machine Consciousness and Media Appearances
Later that day, at 17:30, Jan K. Argasiński (Research Team Leader in Computational Neuroscience) will moderate a debate titled “Artificial Intelligence: Is Anybody There?” with Włodzisław Duch and Piotr Durka. The discussion will tackle some of the most provocative questions in AI: Can machines truly understand — or even become conscious?
As part of the festival’s promotion, Jan K. Argasiński gave an interview for Polityka and published an article in a special edition of Tygodnik Powszechny. He also spoke about the event in several media appearances, including Meloradio, Radio Kraków, and on the national TV channel TVP2.
Among World-Class Guests
This year’s festival welcomes renowned figures such as Terry Sejnowski, a pioneer of artificial neural networks, Stanislas Dehaene, world-leading cognitive neuroscientist, and Zuzana Hofmanová, an expert on the genetic traces of our ancestors. Copernicus Festival remains a unique space where biology, computer science, cognitive science, art, and philosophy converge.
Science for Society
Launched in 2014, the Copernicus Festival has grown into a unique platform for dialogue between science, art, and philosophy. This year’s edition, centered around the theme of “Mystery,” explores the boundaries of human knowledge and technological possibility. Sano at Copernicus Festival brings our researchers into the official program as active contributors, because for us, the event is more than participation — it’s an opportunity to share insights on AI in healthcare, brain modeling, and medical data analysis. It also reflects our broader commitment to connecting science with society, fostering public understanding of the future of technology and the evolving human role in the age of intelligent systems.
