Strengthening Europe’s Neuroscience Infrastructure in Brussels

The Sano Centre for Computational Medicine team participated in the inaugural EBRAINS Summit 2025, held in Brussels from December 8–11 under the theme “Transforming Brain Research and Medicine.” Representing our Computational Neuroscience group were Jan K. Argasiński, Team Leader, and Joan Falco Roget, PhD student. The event drew top European researchers, policymakers, and innovators to discuss neuroscience’s future, digital tools, and research infrastructure.

What is EBRAINS?

EBRAINS is a digital research infrastructure developed under the EU-funded Human Brain Project (HBP), integrating neuroscience data, tools, and technologies with informatics and robotics. It accelerates brain research through brain atlases, simulations, big data analytics, neuromorphic computing, and neurorobotics, driving medical and industrial innovations for patients and society. Coordinated from Belgium by EBRAINS AISBL, it paves the way for transdisciplinary breakthroughs.

Event Highlights

Participants at the EBRAINS Summit explored the latest trends in neuroscience through presentations, interactive sessions, and the Science Market Exhibition (December 9–11), where open data, digital tools, and flagship platform projects were showcased. The event stood out with a joint day alongside the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF), strengthening international collaboration in open neuroscience. The Sano team’s participation enabled valuable connections with leading experts, highlighting our commitment to developing innovative digital solutions for the neuroscience community.

“This event marks an exciting moment for Europe’s neuroscience community as we come together to explore how EBRAINS, our digital research infrastructure, is being used to advance science and innovation.”
