Sano Hosts Professor Alberto Cacciola for Collaborative Discussions

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Professor Alberto Cacciola from Humanitas University and IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital, Milan. Professor Cacciola, a human anatomy expert and collaborator with our Computational Neuroscience Group, visited Sano – Centre for Computational Medicine for a productive week of scientific exchange. He also mentors Joan Falco-Roget on his NCN grant.

A Week of Engagement

Professor Cacciola’s visit began on a Monday evening with an informal greeting. Tuesday morning included a tour of all Sano labs. In the afternoon, we held a brainstorming session to explore future collaborations. Wednesday was a significant day as Professor Cacciola delivered a talk, “From Brain Connectomes to Bedside: Leveraging Brain Connectivity for Precision Medicine.” This presentation covered how connectomics is being used in clinical practice, particularly for neurodegenerative diseases and neuro-oncology. The talk was followed by an extended Q&A and discussion.
On Thursday, Professor Cacciola provided comments on presentations from Sano’s Computational Neuroscience research team, which proved beneficial. His visit concluded on Friday with a trip to the Cyfronet supercomputing center, facilitated by Szymon Mazurek, where he saw the powerful infrastructure we use daily. This was followed by a demonstration of Sano’s VR technology and a discussion about its application in research and teaching anatomy.

Looking Ahead

Professor Cacciola’s visit was successful, and we appreciate his time and insights. We look forward to continued cooperation and wish him well.
