Sano and the Team of Students at Brainhack 2025

On the last weekend of March 2025, the seventh edition of Brainhack Warsaw took place—a unique three-day event dedicated to students and PhD candidates interested in neuroinformatics, neuroscience, machine learning, and brain data analysis. The hackathon was organized by the Neuroinformatics Student Club at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw.

Among the participants was a team representing Sano Centre for Computational Medicine, led by Cemal Koba, Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Neuroscience. The team consisted of Zofia Sikorska, Agata Leszczak, Max Stróżyk, Mikołaj Turczyniak, Agnieszka Mankiewicz and Jan Bendyk
Their project, titled “Segmentation of the Orbit and Eye Movement Detection Using fMRI”, aimed to explore the potential of functional MRI (fMRI) in analyzing the anatomical structure of the orbit and detecting eye movements. The team combined modern techniques in medical image segmentation with functional brain data analysis, showcasing innovative applications of fMRI beyond its traditional scope.
Brainhack Warsaw is not only about project development—it’s also a space for learning, sharing knowledge, and promoting the values of open science. The event fostered interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to work side by side on neuroscience-driven challenges.
Congratulations to the entire Sano team for their commitment and excellent work during the hackathon!
