At Sano Science, we believe in science, knowledge, and education - they make our world a better place. Just before upcoming Christmas, we want to wish you that goodness is always present in our lives and world.

December is a wonderful time to look around and find ways how to help others. In Sano, we decided to join our forces and help the school for blind children in Kraków which – unfortunately - is struggling financially.  

Alfredo Ibias from Jose Sousa research group (Personal Health Data Science) met with professor Suphamit Chittayasothorn from KMITL School of Information Technology.  

From the 28th to the 30th of November Alfredo Ibias form Personal Health Data Science research team  participated in the 14th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS 2022). He presented a paper entitled “Using deep learning to detect anomalies in traffic flow”. 

Sano Science is a project carried out by a consortium consisting of European partners. On Friday 25th November, we had the pleasure to host the representatives of our Advanced Partners in our Kraków office.  

Yesterday during the Open Eyes Economy Prologue, Dr. Anna Maria Trawinska had the opportunity to talk about Sano Science and the role of computational medicine in the development of future medicine.

21-24th November took place the next Life Science Open Space edition. Marian Bubak hosted the health-tech session.  

13-18th November 2022 in Dallas, USA had place the International Conference for High-Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis. This is one of the most important events in supercomputing field and Sano Science was there! 

Virtual Reality Simulator for Fetoscopic Spina Bifida for Repair Surgery - this was the title of Przemysław Korzeniowski presentation at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), one of the largest and most impacting robotics research conferences. 

Sano participated in the 1st European Teaming Conference organized by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy in Limassol, Cyprus.   The event gathered representatives from all 24 European Projects funded under the Horizon 2020 “Teaming for Excellence” Programme, representatives from the European Commission and the Research Executive Agency, as well as stakeholders from the Cyprus R&I ecosystem. 

At the beginning of October, Insigneo welcomed 22 members of Sano team, including Research Team Leaders, PostDocs, Scientific Programmers and PhD Students to a week long PhD Training programme. This was the second time Insigneo had hosted the Sano PhD Training and the first time it was held in person. The event was held in the Medical School Seminar Rooms and the Pam Liversidge Building for the final day. The event opened with a welcome from Dr Andrew Narracott followed by an introduction to medical imaging from Dr John Fenner.  The event was organised by Dr Ivan Benemerito. 

20 academics presented their ideas on how to fix the world around us. Each had just three minutes for their pitch. Among those finalists was Marcin Wierzbinski, a scientific programmer on the Sano Science team.  

Lesser Poland Night of Scientists 2022 - Sano among the exhibitors! 

Paper presentation and co-organization of workshops – these are activities which Sano handled during the 25th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2022, held from September 18th to 22nd in Resort World Convention Centre Singapore. The annual MICCAI conference attracts the world’s leading biomedical scientists, engineers, and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with medical imaging and computer assisted intervention. 

At the beginning of September, the Smart Work for Smart Life project started a new phase. After months of work and building the SW4SL application, we can start to test our application and collect the data.  

During summertime, we were honored to be visited by prof. Byung Suk Lee. He cooperated mostly with dr Ahmed Hamed and the Clinical Data Science research group, but we all had the opportunity to learn from his experience.  

The first edition of Sano Summer Workshops: the practical side of AI in medicine is over! Amazing & truly inspiring time above us, time for summing up! 

On Sunday, 4th September, the 11th edition of the charity Poland Business Run took place in Kraków. Sano Science team had got 2 representations: Sano- Innovation Team & Sano- Passion Team! We’re proud of them!

With the beginning of August, Maciej Malawski, PhD became the new Sano’s director. At the same time, Tomasz Gubala was announced as Executive Director. Congratulations and good luck in the new positions!  

The five days of wonderful time, inspirational lectures, vivid talks, and practical workshops is over. The brain issues, neuroscience stuff, neuroimaging cases and computer sciences were widely discussed in beautiful surroundings of Lipari Island. The vibe and the energy were amazing! That was delightful to meet again in person and have possibility to networking and exchange the ideas.
