Life Science Open Space 2023 (LSOS 2023) is exceptional for our part of Europe networking event. The Summit is dedicated to collaboration and innovation for health and quality of life and will bring together scientists and innovators, entrepreneurs and doctors, brokers, investors, and officials.

This year the "Sano Science Day" event will happen first time in history of our Centre of Excellence, but we hope that we can celebrate our achievements each year!

Sano’s Computer Vision Data Science team significantly raised the accuracy of the prediction of the deposition of Amiloid-β. This misfolded protein is responsible for the development of both Alzheimer’s disease and MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment).

Sano students Karol Zając, Piotr Kica, Adam Nowak, and Krzysztof Gądek won the first prize for their Bachelor of Engineering Thesis at the III National Competition of the Polish Information Technology Society (PTI) for the best engineering works and projects in computer science.

These days Sano is represented at the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP 2023) in Kuala Lumpur by Monika Pytlarz, a PhD Student at the Computer Vision team.

Joanna Kaleta and Szymon Płotka, PhD students at the Health Informatics team of Sano took part in the MICCAI 2023 Challenge of Workflow Recognition in Endoscopic Pituitary Surgery (part of EndoVis Challenge) and won it in the category of “Multi-class instrument recognition”.

Dr Marian Bubak, the scientific affairs director of Sano was invited by the famous Copernicus Center in Krakow to give a popular lecture about computational medicine. The lecture Cyfrowi bliźniacy i medycyna przyszłości (Digital twins and the medicine of the future) is now available on Youtube (the lecture is in Polish language).

The last days were very intensive for Sano teams and we are excited to announce that we are behind two review meetings that are significant milestones in our ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.

On 23rd September 2023 in Zurich, Switzerland, the central campus of ETH had placed the Polonium Foundation’s meetup created and conducted in case to learn and discuss the latest trends in the field of medicine of the future. Since yesterday (12th September 2023) CBMC23 has taken place at Science Congress Center Munich, Garching, Germany. Sano Science is strongly represented by our researchers.

Eleven PhD students from Sano spent a week on a special training program organized by The University of Sheffield, a partner of Sano in the Teaming for Excellence program. Research exchange for PhD students is one of the objectives of the Teaming program, it aims at the active engagement of researchers in the international scientific and innovation community. The educational event for Sano students was organised by the University of Sheffield for the third time. The event took place from 4 to 8 September.

CBMC23 is a conference organized by the Centre of Excellence in Computational Biomedicine in Munich. CBMC23 addresses all aspects of the domain of computational biomedicine, from genome through organ to whole human and population levels, embracing data-driven, mechanistic modelling and simulation, machine learning and combinations thereof. Sano will be represented on the CBMC23 also with a wide range of computational topics. In total, eight abstracts produced by Sano scientists were accepted for the conference.

The second edition of AI Neuro Summer School has just finished, and now we can say that almost a year of preparational work wasn’t in vain!
